We’re Your Number 1 Choice Local Tyre Centre

Picture of Wet Weather Tyres

Your tyres are the only parts of the vehicle in contact with the road surface.

If your tyre tread is getting thin or worse, is already borderline illegal, you need to call in to our local tyre centre immediately. When tyre pressure is uneven or incorrect for the vehicle, allow us to expertly evaluate this and take any corrective actions. We can also check your exhaust and battery for total peace of mind.

The British weather delivers challenges to drivers; no matter how competent you are, the need to have the right tyres fitted for the optimum performance levels, whatever the weather conditions, is paramount. Perhaps the variety of tyres on the market is causing confusion. Do you need winter tyres, wet weather tyres or summer tyres? What are the benefits of all-weather tyres?

When driving with sub-standard tyres, you’re not only risking your safety but that of your passengers, fellow road users and pedestrians. Whilst you may not be overjoyed to pay for tyre fitting, consider the ramifications of skidding on ice, aquaplaning over a road during heavy rainfall or being unable to stop swiftly to avert an accident.

We’re here to help everyone to stay safe.

Stopping distances

You may believe that the tyre tread and pressure variances can’t possibly make the difference between life and death. This is a misconception.

RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recommends, “…that tyres are changed once the tread reaches 3mm in depth. Tyre pressure also affects a vehicle's safety by reducing its handling capability. If a tyre is over or under inflated, less rubber will be in contact with the road which leads to increased tread wear and may increase the vehicles stopping distance.”

RoSPA research has confirmed that at 1.6mm tread, the stopping distance is increased by 36.8% on hot asphalt and 44.6% on smooth concrete in dry conditions. Even at 20mph the stopping distance increases on wet surfaces; you need 14 metres space to be able to stop efficiently without causing injury to others. You need thinking and action time to succeed. Your tyre tread, pressure and balance are key factors.
